5th Grade Pop Art Logos

Andy Warhol. Campbell's soup cans, 1962. Polymer paint on canvas.

Fifth graders recently were asked to create a self identity logo utilizing at least three different things that symbolize themselves. We looked at artist Andy Warhol, who is best known for his pop art from the 1960's. Warhol commonly used screen printing when creating his work, so we used this as inspiration and created our own prints using foam and printing ink.

Students started with their desired logo and reversed the image by tracing in Sharpie and flipping the design over. They then traced the reversed image into foam which allowed for a positive (or "correct") print when inked. Four of the best prints were chosen and tiled on a large sheet of paper to create the final pieces. Please see their amazingly colorful and dynamic pieces below!
