To ensure that students are aware of current, contemporary artists, our recent seasonal project was inspired by British artist Eloise Renouf. Students focused on the warm colors readily found in autumn, and went through multiple steps to create the collages seen below.
To begin, students were introduced to the element of texture and how it can be created using different tools and materials. Students used combs, sponges, and foam brushes to create multiple pieces of paper in varying colors. Once dry, the paper was cut into grass and trees and glued onto the background paper.
The final steps in creating the artwork relied upon strips of cardboard, sticks, and black and white paint. Students used a printing technique to create patterns and lines on their trees, similar to the printing effects of Renouf.
