Students in second grade have been studying how art relates to their own world and community. Before break, we looked at the many different types of leaves we see during Fall, and spoke about creating interesting compositions by repeating different shapes.
Students were given thick watercolor paper to draw upon, and were asked to color their leaves using crayons and blending techniques. The second graders were then introduced to vibrant liquid watercolors, and were shown the amazing capabilities of the watercolor resist method. If the leaves were colored using enough pressure, the watercolors should resist the wax and slip right over the top of the coloring. Below you can see some of the beautiful results. Enjoy!
